Buying a wedding dress can be overwhelming. With so many options to choose from, it’s hard to even know where to start. So, we’ve tried to make things a little easier and to help guide you through the process with a list of 4 things you should consider before buying your wedding dress.
The first thing you may want to consider before buying your wedding dress, is price point. I hate to always bring up this issue, but the reality of it is, if you can’t afford it, you shouldn’t buy it. This is true for anything you need to buy for your wedding day. Although it’s tempting to charge wedding expenses especially a wedding dress, on a credit card, the last thing you want to do is start off a marriage in debt. The good news is good deals can be found on websites such as Ebay, Wedding Dress Market and The Dress Market where women can buy, sell or rent wedding dresses; some of them brand new.
The second thing to consider is what your personal style is; are you more traditional, eclectic, exotic, modern? It’s important to feel comfortable on your wedding day. Don’t compromise your style for money, and that doesn’t mean buying an expensive designer dress, it just means that you should love the wedding dress you buy.
The third thing to consider when looking to buy a wedding dress is the setting of your wedding day. Is it a country wedding? An outdoor wedding or a more traditional wedding? Chances are, your personal style will reflect the setting of your wedding, so these two almost always go hand in hand. However, sometimes you have to compromise a bit to find a balance between your personal style and the setting of your wedding day. For instance, if you’re a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl and don’t see yourself dressing up, you can find a simple and classic dress where you don’t feel like you compromise too much of your style.
The last and probably most important thing you can do before buying a wedding dress is to simplify your process. A lot of research can be done over the Internet or looking through bridal magazines. Good sources and experts in wedding dresses, which can be found both online and in print are wedding publications such as Bridal Guide and Brides. It’s better to pick 4-5 dresses you see in magazines or online so you won’t end up trying on 50 dresses in one day, which can be exhausting. Having an idea of what you want and where you can get it before you go out shopping can be much less stressful and time-saving.
Planning a wedding can be stressful, but it should be the best time of your life. Following these planning tips may help alleviate some of the stress and bring back the joy in buying a wedding dress for the most important day of your life.
