Cupcakes or cake, not sure which one to serve for your next party? Hopefully, we can help you decide on the war between cupcakes and cakes.
In the recent years, we started to see an explosion in the cupcake industry, soon enough it grew into what seems to be a recession proof market. Since then, there has been an increasing trend to nix the cake in favor of this tasty delight.
Whether or not you agree with this trend, exploring the options never hurt anyone so we thought we’d put these two items head to head to see which one came out on top in a battle called, Cupcake or cake: You Decide.
With the average cupcake costing $3 per cupcake and a mid-range two to three-tiered cake in a standard flavor averaging about $5-$6 per slice, it’s no wonder the cupcake has been a strong competitor to the traditional cake. If cost is the only factor, then we’d say this case is closed; however, there are a few other things to consider when planning your event.
Theme of the party—If you’re planning a more formal and traditional event whether it be a birthday party or a wedding, then your best bet would be to go for the cake. For a more whimsical, fun party or even a themed special event, the cupcakes may be a better fit.
Appeal–Bakers can and have been doing amazing things with their baked creations. Both cupcakes and cakes can be as adorned as you’d like them. The advantage that a cake may have is that it can be sculpted into different shapes; this may be harder to do if you’re using cupcakes.
Guests—Does your special event center around kids? Cupcakes are a very easy to eat and sure to get them in a festive mood. This doesn’t mean that some adults wouldn’t enjoy having cupcakes instead of cake; it just depends on the guests, as some guests may consider it too casual or cheap for a special event, especially in a more formal setting, such as a wedding.
Practicality—This is a no-brainer, we have to give it to the cupcakes on this one. You don’t need plates and forks to serve; people can just grab and go. This is especially good in a setting where you are having a casual event or more of a cocktail reception than a traditional sit-down dinner party.
With the cupcake industry boom and its projection to rise to 20 percent over the next five years, it’s very apparent that cupcakes are a growing trend. However, there are many factors to consider when deciding on serving cupcakes or cake for your next special event. The bottom line is deciding what works best for you and your guests. The good news is, if you can’t make up your mind, you can always do both! That’s the beauty of planning a special event; you decide.
