Engagement Photos; Learning the Ropes…
Since we are having a destination wedding, which by the way cut all of our costs in half because it cut our guest list in half, I wanted to make sure we incorporated our hometown into the venue. I thought a neat way to do that would be to have engagement photos taken in our hometown and use those photos for both Save the Dates and as décor at the venue as well. Unbeknownst to me, my “official” wedding photographer that I would later book for our wedding day, and most other professional photographers, include a wedding engagement photos session with their package. Essentially, I will be paying for the same thing twice. However, I was still okay with it because this is something I really wanted for the wedding, especially since our dogs, who are like our children, would not be able to attend the wedding, so we would at least have photos of them at the wedding.
I asked my brother if he knew of any good photographers since a lot of his good friends are artistic, multi-media entreprenuers. He referred me to a couple of photographers and I fell in love with one. The price for the engagement photos session wasn’t too bad and it included a printing credit, which is something rarely included with the high-end photographers I spoke with, so I booked her instantly. We scheduled our engagement photos session for Feb. 27 and I’m very excited about it! I hope they come out exactly like I picture it in my head, well probably not, but imperfection has always defined us so might as well show it off in the engagement photos as well.
So, this is what I learned from the experience:
Engagement Photos Tips
1. Ask around to see if any of your immediate friends or family members know of any photographers that are willing to offer you a discount on your engagement and/or rehearsal dinner photos and don’t limit yourself to just special event photographers. (In my case, my brother knew of a lot of advertising photographers and photojournalists. These type of photographers may be willing to take pictures as freelance for less than a special event photographer.)
2. If you are having a destination wedding, make sure you do not pay for engagement photos twice, once in your hometown and again at your destination location. More than likely, the photographer at your destination wedding will offer a free engagement photos session. Although the cost isn’t much, you could be saving anywhere from $100 to $300, unless, like me, you want to incorporate your hometown into your wedding in some way.
I hope these tips help save you time and money. Thanks for reading and following this blog. More upates to come…until next time!
