Wedding Vendor Meeting

Negotiating with Wedding Vendors

We decided to go to Phoenix this weekend to get as much done for the wedding before I started my spring semester, because of our work schedule, we both had a four-day weekend. We packed up the two little ones and left Josie in good hands, we know not to travel with her now after a horrible car sickness incident that lasted three days. I contacted as many wedding vendors as I could to be able to squeeze in as many meetings as I could for the weekend. Adrian’s mother knows the owner of our wedding venue fairly well, so we scheduled to meet with him for lunch and drinks as soon as we arrived.

We arrived at Adrian’s mother’s house, dropped off the dogs, and changed as soon as we got in; by then it was 2 p.m. When we arrived at our first wedding vendor meeting, I was surprised to see that the venue was bigger than I remembered. Being a bar/restaurant, one has to use their imagination to see what it would look like as a wedding.

Though I was quite nervous to meet the owner, we got along fairly well, the more he liked us, the more he started offering us more options. He offered to close down the location for the entire day in order to give us time to decorate the venue prior to the wedding reception. We stayed at the venue until midnight and were able to get a lot of our plans finalized. I’d say it was a very productive wedding vendor meeting. So, what did I learn?

Wedding Vendor Meeting Tips

1. Be yourself with all of your wedding vendors, they may be willing to work with you more than you think. Negotiating with vendors only starts when they are able to relate to you, and any good wedding vendor is always willing to negotiate a price when they know the budget is tight and certain expectations are placed for that once in a lifetime event.

2. When meeting with wedding vendors for a destination wedding, make sure you have a full itinerary ready prior to arriving to the “destination.” This will save you a lot of time and lower your stress.

All in all, I would say it was quite a successful day. I hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed sharing this experience. Thanks for reading…until next time!
